Indian GST Invoicing Rules (Rule 46 of CGST Act)
Under the Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST) Rules, registered taxpayers must issue a Tax Invoice containing:
- Supplier's legal name, registered address, and 15-digit GSTIN.
- Consecutive serial invoice number containing only alphabets, numerals, and special characters.
- Recipient's name, address, and GSTIN (for B2B supply) or State Name & Code (for B2C supply over ₹50,000).
- HSN Code (for goods) or SAC Code (for services).
- Tax rate breakdown: CGST (e.g. 9%) + SGST (9%) for intra-state sales, or IGST (18%) for inter-state transactions.
- Place of supply along with the name of the destination State.
