HMRC Mandatory Requirements for UK VAT Invoices
If your UK business turnover exceeds £90,000 (VAT threshold), you must register for VAT with HMRC and issue a full VAT invoice for every taxable supply to VAT-registered clients. HMRC requires:
- A unique sequential invoice identification number.
- Your full business name, registered address, and 9-digit UK VAT registration number.
- The invoice issue date and 'tax point' (time of supply).
- The customer's full name and billing address.
- A clear breakdown of goods/services showing unit price excluding VAT, quantity, VAT rate applied (Standard 20%, Reduced 5%, or Zero 0%), and total VAT charged.
UK Payment Regulations & Late Payment Fees
Under the UK Late Payment of Commercial Debts (Interest) Act, unless otherwise agreed, payment is legally due within 30 days of receiving the invoice or goods. You can specify Sort Code and Account Number or IBAN details directly on your PDF.
